If the outdoors is your pleasure, this is the place to be. You are invited to experience boating, canoeing, kayaking, tubing, swimming and fishing at one of our lovely lakes and rivers. There are also
miles of hiking and biking trails with great views. In addition, see a lock open on the Champlain Canal that connects Hudson River with Lake Champlain thus joining major eastern waterways to the Atlantic Ocean. Once used for commercial transportation, the canal is now used mainly for pleasure boating. Walking, hiking and biking trails abound throughout the county and along the Champlain and Feeder Canals. Bird watching is also a popular activity here.
Washington County is an agricultural gem. Pick your own blueberries, black berries, raspberries and strawberries when in season and there are many u-pick orchards. Purchase fresh produce at a roadside stand or a farmers’ market. Fiber Farms are everywhere. See how the fibers of an alpaca, or rabbit or sheep are woven or knitted into fabric. Very soft items are usually for sale. See how maple syrup is produced. Join the leaf peepers in the fall.
If the winter is your season, ski down Willard Mountain and snow tube. Cross Country Skiing is everywhere the snow flies. Snowmobiling is a way of life with trails groomed by the snowmobile clubs of the county.
Or simply bring a book and do nothing. Relax in the sound of silence.
